Day 10 - Trip of a Lifetime

Day 10

Welp... this is it....Final thoughts!

Thank you so much for the great reception back from our adventure! Your outpouring of love and smiling faces made it extra special.

So you know by now, we woke up Tuesday morning in Madrid with a 7:30 a.m. wakeup call. We headed to the airport smoothly and checked all of our luggage without a hitch. Saying goodbye to Daniele was much more difficult. As we parted ways, all 18 of our kiddos surrounded him in a giant bear hug as they chanted his name. Boy, it got awfully dusty in there! He is definitely one of a kind. He put up with our nonsense and poured his love of language and culture into your kids! As for the adults, we appreciated the trust, kindness, patience, and the laughter! We hope to see him again someday!

We spent our last remaining Euros on the essential snacks and loaded up the flight to Montreal. It was a long 7 hours of sitting, but we all made it. Between the like 5 passport checks (for real), customs, and bathroom stop, we cut through all of our layover time. We literally made the boarding time with 1 minute to spare...whew. The flight to Denver felt exceptionally long; it could have been the delayed takeoff (intercom repair needed) or the delayed unloading (due to the weather in Denver). Either way, it made it a very long day for your kids. But we all survived! I’m sure your kids were so very glad to see you!

For Mrs. Bittler, Mrs. Shroyer & me… we want to thank you for allowing us to take your children on this wonderful ten-day adventure. It was filled with culture, language, and relationships. I trust we have created within your young adult, the passion to travel and experience others in their own environment. And thankful for reading along with the blog...made it fun to write.

Please know that we are humbled by your trust in us and feel very privileged to have led such a good group of kids. They were courteous, mostly on time, and willing to try new things. They listened to one another and the adults when it really counted. Even though much of the time they were extremely tired, they consumed the information and stories from Daniele and the local guides. All of your kids were really great!

Just about two weeks ago, we started out with 18 young people, both excited and nervous about being in other countries with other languages, cultures, and food. By the time they touched down at home, your young adults had conquered many of the fears they had started with. We saw them grow, mature, and analyze the similarities and differences between the French and Spanish cultures and their own. We trust you have seen, and continue to see, them grow as they venture next year to high school.

As many of you know, this was my last trip with MRMS. I appreciate all of the support you have given me throughout this journey. It was a really fun way to end this part of my career. Looking forward to continuing to build on these relationships and seeing you all around at MVHS in the future.

Be brave, try new things and enjoy the adventure ahead!

Good luck to you and your children.

Adam
